25th Community Health Camp: Chulalongkorn Health Science Students Promote Well-being and Rational Medication Use
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, together with other health science faculties—Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Allied Health Sciences, and Nursing—organized the “25th Community Health Camp” from January 24–26, 2025, at Wat Rat Charoensatthatham School, Krok Sombun Subdistrict, Si Maha Phot District, Prachinburi Province
The camp was designed to reduce health disparities in rural areas while providing students with the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience through interprofessional education (interprofessional education) Participants worked under the supervision of faculty advisors and alumni from each faculty
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences played an important role in offering counseling on the use of medicines and herbal products, while also promoting health and medication literacy for local residents. This initiative supports the national policy toward Thailand becoming a Rational Drug Use (RDU country)
Camp activities included general health check-ups such as blood pressure measurement and blood testing, dental and pet health services, public service activities, school facility repairs, and recreational events with the community. More than 400 residents received healthcare services and practical health knowledge, leading to improved quality of life and long-term reductions in healthcare access disparities
Throughout the three-day camp, over 200 students engaged in (experiential learning) which strengthened their professional competencies, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of community contexts. These are essential qualities of Chulalongkorn graduates and form the foundation for sustainable community development. The results reflected high satisfaction from both the community and participants, while also building trust and long-term relationships to support future health initiatives
The project further emphasized positive societal outcomes, including knowledge sharing with the community, building sustainable partnerships between the university and local communities, enhancing quality of life for rural residents, reducing the burden on the public healthcare system, and instilling civic responsibility among students
The camp is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) — improving access to healthcare and health knowledge; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) — strengthening resilience in rural communities; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) — fostering collaboration between academic institutions and local stakeholders. Together, these outcomes mark another important step in Chulalongkorn University’s commitment to sustainable social development in Thailand.
